The Daily Tea: Pace Yourself

"There's no time to hurry, yet no time to lose."
-Bessie Copage

Pace yourself. It's very tempting to look around and pattern one's life after others. Maybe a friend just got married, got a new job, and bought a new home. Do you feel like you should be doing more? Until you breathe your last breath, there is still time. Everyone moves at their own pace. Find the path that's most appropriate for you, even if it doesn't match those around you. As long as you aren't sitting stationery, you are there is movement in your life. Make sure that movement is forward, but don't rush it. The race isn't given to the swift.

Get Some Soul: Live Music

Once you get to a certain age, things start to happen. Your tastes start to change and you settle down a bit. Even at a young age, one should learn to appreciate the art of live music. It has become one of my obsessions lately.
My life has been saturated with it. Hip-Hop funk at Café Ole, Salsa at Rumba Room, Blues at Ground Zero, Jazz at Mollie Fontaine's, 80s Rock at Young Ave Deli, etc.
I had to catch myself when I heard Al Green's Love and Happiness and threw up my arms in excitement. Am I forty? No. However, live music is one of the greatest joys in life. Even with pop music, an artist live in concert is better than anything a DJ could give you.
Take some time and visit a local jazz club. Ditch the shot of Patron and grab a glass of wine.
Or grab a plastic cup and listen to the sounds of live hip-hop.
Get your grown and sexy on. :)
You'll never need Soulja Boy again.

The Daily Tea: Nothing's Impossible

"Those who say it can't be done
are usually interrupted by others doing it."
James A. Baldwin, Writer

What's the best revenge? Success.
There are many people who may offer discouraging words, even with good intentions.
It's up to you to live up to your potential and to prove them wrong who don't possess belief in you.

My Mixtapes: Your Fashion Soundtrack

I'm a sucker for mixtapes and compilations, so I gathered the songs that made me think most about fashion. They are either about fashionistas or a specific article of clothing.
I hope you enjoy. Crank it up, and put the bass in your walk.

I don't claim to own any copyright of any of the music or the cover photo [taken from an H&M spread featuring model Coco Rocha]. I did create the cover art using the photo, but of course the photography isn't my own. Posting of the music is purely for promotional purposes. Please support the artists and buy their albums.

Vibe Magazine pays tribute to the canceled CW television show The Game which depicted professional athletes and the dynamic women beside them.
Using R&B starlets and NFL stars, photographer Ben Watts created some tantalizing photos.
VIBE's closing signals the end of an era in urban media. BET is a shell of its former self and without VIBE, there is no major magazine devoted solely to black music and entertainment.
The days when Emil Wilkebin was at the helm of VIBE were the magazine's best, serving up amazing covers, great journalism, and fantastic fashion spreads.
VIBE's exit is bittersweet. It is officially the era of the blog/online magazine. Printed periodicals are becoming endangered species.
