Ivy League

New York was great but Princeton, NJ stole my heart.

My best gal and I explored the small college town which is home of the Ivy League school of the same name.
Small book stores, Cornel West sightings, dining in cute little pubs...Simplicity is not nearly appreciated enough.
The campus was gorgeous and the town was quaint and charming.
Can I go back?

Lego of My Sh*t: Dee & Ricky

Dee and Ricky have officially launched their new website, featuring an updated online store fully stocked with their famed LEGO goods made popular by the likes of Kanye West, Takashi Murakami and Marc Jacobs amongst others. Alongside the popular heart brooch, the twins work up new colorways and silhouettes in various other LEGO-infused accessory pieces.
They seem like a bit of a waste since one can always buy the bricks directly from the LEGO site and assemble your own. But I guess if you have Kanye money, you can spend $200 on a toy brooch. :-)
These are hot accessories though.

The Daily Tea: Jill Scott on Recovery

"Well baby just because you loved and lost don't mean stop loving.
If you have a nightmare, do you stop dreaming?"
-Jill Scott, Can't Explain (42nd Street Happenstance)
You know my motto: "when life gives you lemons, make lemon drop cocktails."
Don't let bad experiences affect your life for the negative. Everything happens for a reason. Even in situations besides love, dust yourself off and learn from it. It gets better down the road.

My Icons: Miss Babs

Barbra Streisand

(on Diana Ross) "I just don't like the idea of her singing my songs. Who the hell does she thinks she is? The world doesn't need another Streisand!"

Damn, and we thought Etta was throwin' shade... Wow... Gotta love it!

Keri Sets it Straight

Keri Hilson
On that record, shady industry people, and her career.

I'm not a huge fan of Miss Hilson. I think she is an incredible writer but not that interesting as a solo act. I also think that diss record would have been more striking if she hadn't backed down.
Would you really have us believe that you weren't referencing Miss Sasha in that song??
[She must have been haunted by gilded gloves in her sleep]

However, I do agree with what she is saying in this video.
Why would people come around you if they have ill will toward you?
"Drinking [your] alcohol!" haha
It's not just the industry. It's the world in general. Shade is everywhere, Miss Keri.

Covers: Sasha Rocks

Sasha's tour kicked off yesterday in Canada.
As usual, her set list included some interesting song choices.
In the Beyoncé Experience she sang Jill Scott's Lyzel in E Flat (He Loves Me) and Gnarls Barkley's Crazy.

Here are some of the surprises below.

Beyoncé, also known as Sasha Fierce, kicks off her world tour today in Edmonton and a few costume designs have finally leaked. Those metal and leopard print getups that surfaced on various sites turned out to be fakes [luckily...because they were atrocious].

Beyoncé enlisted fashion designer Thierry Mugler to be the creative director for her tour. He was the overseer for all visual aspects- lights, sets, a 58 piece wardrobe collection, and even bits of choreography. Having taken a break from the fashion world to focus on fragrances, Mugler returns to serve up some Fierce.

"The duality between being a woman and a warrior," is how Mugler described his concept for Sasha Fierce. The look imagines her as a "tough, chic, superheroine type who likes her power glam with a bit of froth; hence, the bow bustle and mismatched gloves that pair lacy fishnet with articulated metal."

"There will be a lot of dramatization and metamorphosis on stage," added Mugler.
Sounds exciting. :-)

CLICK HERE to view the Sasha Fierce promo on the designer's website.

Below are other looks by Mugler that Beyoncé has rocked in the past.

Nostalgia: Tyra, Life Size

Tyra Banks
in Life Size with Lindsay Lohan

I can remember my niece watching this movie every damn day.
Lindsay Lohan was so cute.
It's about Tyra playing a Barbie-like doll named Eve who comes to life through the magic of Lohan's hairbrush.
[Deep, I know]
Anyway, this clip is Tyra singing the theme song from the movie.
Hmmm...looking at this years later really makes me say WTF. LOL

[Check out the double bass player plucking away although nothing in the music matches what he is playing...lol]

Out of the SOAP Box: As the World Turns

As the World Turns broke ground in daytime television when they depicted gay couple Luke and Noah. Daytime TV's first gay kiss caused quite a stir. All My Children has since followed suit with a lesbian couple.

I really love Luke and Noah's storyline. It's not stereotypical and it shows them as two young people in love. They have real issues and treat each other with mutual respect.

I love the show and I have really been excited lately how they incorporate Gay Rights agenda in the plot. Luke & Noah have recently taken a stand against discrimination from a housing project. They show the controversy, risks, and threats that follow the men's stand on that issue. I love As the World Turns because it's not as unrealistic as some soaps [they don't bring people back from the dead that often...lol]. They also showed Luke's grandmother's new husband as a closeted gay man and handled the situation of down-low men really well. It was nice to see a corporate white man on the DL rather than a thuggish black man.

Anyway, if you like soaps, tune into As the World Turns on CBS. I love it! hee hee

Here's that infamous kiss:

Just in case you ever wondered what the difference was.

Glorious pictures. You can always count on Duran to shoot beautiful photos and make them art. And Maeder is a pro. Tyra says the world wouldn't want an America's Next Top Male Model... I strongly disagree. Can we get David Gandy to host??

PG-13 Doesn't Sound too Thrilling

Starring Beyoncé Knowles, Idris Elba, Ali Larter
The stars discuss the film.

Beyoncé appears to be adding a new title to her resumé, having served as an executive producer on the last two film projects she has been involved with. [The other being Cadillac Records]
I hope Obsessed is better than it looks.
I still have a bad feeling about this one...

My Icons: Beyond Motown

The King of Pop & The Boss

“The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work.” -Michael Jackson
"Just because I have my standards they think I'm a bitch." -Diana Ross

Two of my favorite people.
Extremely flawed but genius and innovative.
Let me get a piece of that action one day...
That Diana Ross quote sums me up quite nicely.

Nostalgia: King & Queen

Michael & Janet Jackson

All of this talk about Ciara & Justin takes me back to their respective predecessors. This video was bonkers! Mike and Janet will never be replaced. That dance break at 3:20 is still one of the best in music video history. Janet was a beast! Crazy or not, they are pop royalty.

The Daily Tea: What Has He Done for You Lately?

I've been a bit emo lately. I'm religious but not as dedicated as I should be. During this season of Lent, one can't help but think about what He has done for us....

Speak the words:

"Jesus you're my everything.
The cross, you did that just for me.
So whatever you take me through...
For every time you brought me through.
I promise I'll spend my always with you."

Here's a behind the scenes video of how they made the hi-tech computer generated imagery.

Bump & Grind: Ciara and Justin

Ciara featuring Justin Timberlake
Love & Sex & Magic [Video]

Primal, carnal lust!!
Oh my word!
[clutching pearls]

I like the video a lot. It's quite oversexed but I guess she's just following the song's concept.
"Show me all your favorite tricks that you wanna use on me..."
I think she covered them all.
I need a cold shower now.
